Another concert in St Pancras
Full details of a Saxophone Concert on February 10th ... Not one to be missed ... and all in aid of the Organ Appeal
On Saturday February 10th 6pm we are putting on a concert in the church which we think will be a delight for your ears. Ferio Saxophone Quartet are putting on a varied programme of arrangements for baritone, tenor, alto and soprano sax, and there really should be something in there for everyone.
Ferio are a London based quartet of professional musicians. They have several albums available for streaming on Spotify etc, or you can visit their website for a preview. They performed at the Whiddon Festival in 2022 in Throwleigh church, and were frankly stunning. At times it is hard to believe they are playing saxophones; incredible dexterity, range of sounds and co-ordination.
Here is the programme:
George Frideric Handel, arr. Iain Farrington: Water Music (selection)
George Frideric Handel, arr. Iain Farrington: Sarabande from Harpsichord Suite in D minor, HWV 437
Edward Elgar, arr. Ferio: Serenade for Strings, op. 20
Hugo Reinhart: Quartet in F minor for Saxophone Quartet (selection)
Interval
George Gershwin, arr. Nigel Wood: An American in Paris
Leonard Bernstein, arr. Boatman: West Side Story Suite (selection)
Guillermo Lago: Sarajevo, from Ciudades
Will Gregory: Hoe Down
The concert is in aid of the organ replacement project, which is coming along nicely. We have one or two irons in the fire on second hand organs, and several organ builders are scouting for us to find something suitable.
£15 non reserved seating tickets are available from The Rugglestone and The Café on the Green, or on the door at the concert. Doors open at 5.30pm, and seats are available on a first come first served basis. Feel free to bring a cushion and/or a blanket!
There are also a limited number of pre-allocated premium seats available for £20 each: just email Michael Brown to purchase: mikebrown007@hotmail.com or ring 07595 927563.
Wine and soft drinks are available before the concert and in the interval, for which we ask for a cash donation.
We do hope you can join us and support this worthwhile cause.
Meanwhile we are already planning our next concert, which will be a piano recital in the summer. Watch this space.
