The Widecombe Social Club Programme for 2025
The Social Club is back from its Winter's break. Here's what to forward to in 2025
The Social Club meets on the 2nd Thursday of the month from March to November at 7:30pm at Church House. The talks are very varied. Last year’s talks ranged from archaeology, postal vans and New Zealand farming to saving the Curlew! There is also a raffle and a cup of tea afterwards. All are welcome.
The Group started its 2025 programme last month with a very interesting talk on the Guide Dogs Association from Peter Boston and retired guide dog Ripley.
On April 10th Bridget Cole will be talking about her life from a farming upbringing to university and wool studies..
On May 1st - note the change of our usual week - Susie Boult invites us to visit her garden at Windwhistle. 6:30 pm start. The change of date will hopefully line up with Susie’s lovely Rhododendrons and Azaleas. Here’s hoping the weather is far better than last year’s garden visit.
on June 6th local farmer Ken Edwards will conduct a conversation with friend and retired vet Ray Williams.
and in July (10th) Debbie Silver, retired GP, with help us with Healthy Eating
August (14th) sees a visit from bookmaker Dave Phillips. That’s bookmaker as in betting odds, not bookmaker as seen on the Repair Shop! Perhaps we will all have a go at tic-tac signaling.
On 11th September Carole Arnold will tells us all about the Royal British Legion, which has been supporting Service men and women since 1921.
October (9th) sees a talk from Sue Viccars, the ex editor of the Dartmoor Magazine,
and our last talk for 2025 is on November 13th, and is from the local author Stephanie Austin. An evening of murder and drugs barons in Ashburton and Dartmoor perhaps ?
